Today I got to go to Matthew’s kinder and spend an hour building and making and eating with him for Father’s Day.

He was very excited to have me there and showed me all all the things he has been doing.

First we built some spaceships out of Lego and then moved onto creating a hand puppet of of a rubber glove. My creative juices were flowing and I added a roll-up tongue made out of red paper.

Next we made an elephant out of clay. I was so impressed with the display that I took a photo and we printed it out 8″x12″ at the nearest Harvey Norman.

It was a fun time and great to see some of the things he does during the day.

I took Matthew to the dentist this morning and I must say how impressed I was at how he handled himself.

He followed the dentist’s directions and squeezed my hand occasionally when it hurt. The whole time he was making both the dentist and the dental assistant (nice…) laugh which his funny comments and observations, which I wasn’t sure was such a good thing when he had a drill in his mouth.

As per usual Matthew had the entire situation sussed out and was making sure everyone else knew what to do.

Matthew: “Right Dad, you sit there and hold my hand in case I need to squeeze you … the dentist will put me in the chair and take me for a little ride and then put the nose bit on and then fix my teeth and then I will have a drink … right”

Me: “Ah OK Matthew but shouldn’t we ask the dentist what he needs to do.”

Dentist: “No … he’s right.”

I love that kid.

A Daddy-Daughter Moment

Today I went to see the Smiths.

Last week Sarah (whilst Julian stood by) delivered Lani Elizabeth into the world and what a precious little bundle she is.

Julian asked me to come and take some photos and I was both honoured and terrified to do so. Honoured because having someone ask you to capture the early years of someones existence is an honour … and terrified because Sarah is a very gifted photographer herself.

The lighting wasn’t ideal but I managed to get some nice photos especially the featured image where I was watching Julian interacting with Lani with nothing less than love in his eyes.

Mate, it was a privilege to have been able to share some pictures with you and hope you like them. I look forward to being able to take many more as little Lani grows up.

I must say that the reaction to this photo on Flickr has been quite astounding. I’m used to getting a couple of comments on most images but seven within the first few hours?? I was very happy with the photograph and thanks to Julian and Sarah, I was allowed to post it on Flickr and my portfolio site.

Firefox spelling

Geek Comments Off

I rely on spell checkers as I simply can not spell.

But even I knew I was right on the following.

My word: Craigieburn.

Firefox suggest spelling: Sideburns.

Additional: Firefox comes up with a dotted red line under the word Firefox. Ironic.

30 second exposures turned out to be an error as although it doesn’t appear as such, that moon thing moves pretty damn fast. This shot was the result of a cheap tripod.
