78/365 – Framed

Lately Mike and Chris have made comments about hitting the wall in their 365 day projects. Hitting the wall as in running out of original ideas. I can appreciate their concerns as I’m sort of at that stage myself. The only difference is that they are in their first 10 days and I posted day 79 today. :-)

It seems I get the best reaction to a photo whenever my eyes are staring directly down the lens. As much as I want to provide variety, in the instance of a complete lack of new ideas, my eyes come to the rescue. It’s almost like a safety net.

Spent nearly all day yesterday going through the army photos I took on Saturday. At least I can justify the full days pay I will be claiming for the selection and post processing time tonight. November is rapidly vanishing under a cloud of army activities but at least I may be able to afford Christmas presents for people during the festive season.

I was planning on doing a blow by blow description of the weekend past but the mere thought of it nearly sent me to sleep. So in it’s place is the dot point weekend. Enjoy.

Friday

  • Organise army uniforms x 3
  • Lunch with L
  • Pick up drums from army
  • Drop of some of Matthew’s clothes to ex at her workplace
  • Drive to gig
  • Set up drums
  • Find open wireless network and past the time
  • Played gig, ate lot, finished late drove home
  • Got to sleep at 0200

Saturday

  • Awake at 0500
  • At bandroom by 0730
  • Photographed regimental church service
  • Photographed regimental parade
  • Played and photographed at lunch
  • Played and photographed at official dinner
  • Fell into bed around 0200

Sunday

  • Up at 0930
  • Took dog for a walk
  • Told L off for buying breakfast
  • Went to 40th party and took a few photos (yes only a few)
  • Went to Mum’s and nearly fell asleep on the couch with my head in L’s lap. Mmmmm comfortable couch sleeping
  • Went to L’s and watched a DVD whilst having dinner
  • Went to sleep

Quote of the weekend:

“I love our regiment … where else in the army could you say ‘What ever floats your boat sir’ to a colonel and get a way with it?” – Me.

Frustration of the weekend:

‘Birdland’ is not an appropriate tune to open a mess dinner with.

There you have it.

Damn it’s early.

5.55am to be precise.

I should think of going … but I wanted to say good morning to my loyal readers first.

No more entries for the day unless I manage to escape army for a while and find an open wireless network somewhere.

Three hours sleep is not enough, but that’s all my body would allow me before jolting me awake.

Looking forward to climbing into bed tomorrow morning. Sorry in advance for the snoring.

Must go … butt stuck on chair.

Have a great day and have no fear. Australia will be well protected … from what I have no idea … but there will be a lot of us there.

A big thank you goes to the houses on the following streets for their unsecured wireless access points that I hopped on board at some point today.

Maidstone Street, Ringwood East and Ringwood-Warrandyte Road, Warrandyte South.

As I type this I am on the side of the road, killing time online thanks to the above mentioned second unsecured wireless access point. I just looked up into the eyes of a cow. Yes a real cow.

My drums are all set up at tonights location (and the band isn’t even supposed to arrive for an hour) so I thought I’d touch base with you guys.

My tomorrow just got a little worse. As well as playing two separate concerts in three different uniforms, any downtime I had during the day is now being taken up with photography duties for the regiment.

Who knows …

After having spent the afternoon with the newly returned Miss L (and Jake … who is still so very cool), I hopped on a train to Melbourne to meet up with Scott (Scootie on flickr) for our annual get together.

Scott was my best man at my wedding back in 1999. We have seen each other about once per year (if that) since. Scott is responsible for getting me hooked on flickr many many many moons ago and is an awesome photographer.

We met near the Aquarium and did a bit of a southeast corner of the CBD mixed with a dash of South Docklands urban jaunt with a mandatory Krispy Kremes stop over for cold caffeine and glazed sugar refreshment.

On looking through the photos I am reminded that this urban shooting is not my ‘thing’ but as always I am ready and willing to give it a go. I find it difficult to see the shots that others such as Scott and Mike have no trouble with. It’s funny that my favorite shots all involve people somehow. I guess that’s what i do. :-)

A heads up that my blog posting may be slightly spasmodic until Sunday as I have a million (ok maybe not a million, but at least 23) things I need to do before Sunday. Army (finding three separate uniforms), gigs with the Cucumbers, dinner with friends (not a have to, a want to), and I have to try and fit Matthew and Miss L into the weekend as well!
