Who knows …

Originally uploaded by RXAphotos

After having spent the afternoon with the newly returned Miss L (and Jake … who is still so very cool), I hopped on a train to Melbourne to meet up with Scott (Scootie on flickr) for our annual get together.

Scott was my best man at my wedding back in 1999. We have seen each other about once per year (if that) since. Scott is responsible for getting me hooked on flickr many many many moons ago and is an awesome photographer.

We met near the Aquarium and did a bit of a southeast corner of the CBD mixed with a dash of South Docklands urban jaunt with a mandatory Krispy Kremes stop over for cold caffeine and glazed sugar refreshment.

On looking through the photos I am reminded that this urban shooting is not my ‘thing’ but as always I am ready and willing to give it a go. I find it difficult to see the shots that others such as Scott and Mike have no trouble with. It’s funny that my favorite shots all involve people somehow. I guess that’s what i do. :-)

A heads up that my blog posting may be slightly spasmodic until Sunday as I have a million (ok maybe not a million, but at least 23) things I need to do before Sunday. Army (finding three separate uniforms), gigs with the Cucumbers, dinner with friends (not a have to, a want to), and I have to try and fit Matthew and Miss L into the weekend as well!

L … what was that funny thing I said today that I was going to add as a quote to the blog?

72/365 – Covering Fire

Tuesday means Army day in the RXAphotos household. I woke up and saw my slouch hat (one of my favourite possessions) and instantly visualized this photograph.

It will be interesting to see what comments if any I get on this photograph. I’m hoping people will refrain from the typical “I’m going to say something funny to cover up my embarrassment” comments as to me this is a serious photograph.

It says to me that you do not need to wear a uniform to have the mind and spirit of a ‘digger’, an Australian soldier. And although my role in the defense force is that of a musician, I am still none-the-less an Australian soldier and damn proud of it.

This type of photograph is something I would normally not do but once again I undertook the 365days project to open my eyes to new photographic styles and compositions. Plus I have found that recently I am doing a lot of things I wouldn’t have never done before and it is all been good experiences so far.

Stepping out of my comfort zone has almost been a mantra for the past week and I am glad to do so. It does scare me a little but the benefits will be long remembered I’m sure.

My photo editor hasn’t seen nor approved this and I would love to see her face when she logs on to my flickr account from New Zealand today. I’m sure (I hope) I will get an email shortly about it.

Just be glad I’m using my hand to hold the hat up.

Reader question

Blog, Lucy Comments Off

In a recent email. “Does ‘L’ approve of her activities and photos being plastered over your blog and flickr site?”.

Thank you for your email.

I can assure you that any  appearance of L in written or photographic form is done so at the full knowledge and consent of said person. In fact L often edits my work to avoid me mentioning her bizarre rubber obsession …

Woops … That’s going to come back and bite me in the butt.  Luckily she’s in New Zealand at the moment and I don’t think they have discovered the internet yet. I’m safe for a couple of days.
